Mark Murphy let my friends and me sit in when I was in high school. A generous, generous singer. Madeline Eastman tells a similar tale of him, too.
"Hey, man... Freddie's here. You got a camera?" A bunch of people came by to pay homage to Freddie Hubbard. He didn't cut anyone off, sticking around quite a while so people could get pictures with him. John McNeill is also an awesome trumpet player.
I was on my way from the Lenox Lounge jam session to St. Nick's Pub for the later one. Walking cross-town on 125th, there it was...
Went to a Sunday night jam at the Lenox, back in the zebra room. Met a Tuskeegee Airman. Sang Bennie's From Heaven. Had a wonderful time.
An unassuming club; it was bitterly cold outside but it very warm inside. The folks there for the jam session liked House Husband's Blues, with a special verse in honor of session host, TC3.
